Terkini - Pengodam Laman Portal Malaysia Dikenal Pasti

Cybersecurity

Polis telah mengesan pengodam a.k.a Anonymous laman web Malaysia

Cops tracing source of hacker video message

The Star (15 June 2010)

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian police have started investigations into who posted the YouTube video message allegedly from the Anonymous hacker group.

Asst Comm Mohd Kamaruddin Md Din, head of the CyberSecurity and Multimedia Investigation Di-vision, at the Commercial Division of the Royal Malaysian Police, said they would be liaising with the telecommunications industry watchdog.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is the industry regulator.

"We have advised the relevant agencies involved to be alert following the threat," Kamaruddin said.

The video message posted yesterday said the hacker group was going to attack the www.malaysia.gov.my portal because the MCMC had banned several file-sharing websites, as well as for several other reasons. A similar message was also posted on another website.

CyberSecurity Malaysia, which is responsible for safeguarding the nation's borders in cyberspace, said it takes all cyberthreats seriously.

"We are aware of the hacker threat and we believe that the threat is real. We have alerted the relevant parties and government agencies," said Lt Col (Rtd) Datuk Husin Jazri, chief executive officer of CyberSecurity Malaysia.

It was learnt that a high-level emergency meeting took place yesterday between the relevant authorities, including the National Security Council and CyberSecurity Malaysia, over the threat.

Attack on govt website will be prevented, says Rais (Updated)
The Star (15 June 2011)

KUALA LUMPUR: The country's cyber security authorities are working towards preventing a planned attack on Malaysian government website www.malaysia.gov.my, said Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

However, he declined to elaborate on the preventive actions, saying that they were confidential.

A hacker group, calling itself Anonymous has threatened to launch the attack on the government's official website at about 3.30am Thursday.

The group said in a Youtube posting that it was acting against the various forms of censorship by the Malaysian government and the recent move to block 10 file-sharing websites.

Dr Rais added that the hacker group had misunderstood the government's intention in blocking the 10 filesharing websites.

"We do not have censorship, except when crimes are committed through cyberspace," he said, adding that the ministry was taking the threats very seriously.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police was aware of the hack threat and was working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)to investigate the issue.

He added that there was a rise in cyber crimes including the misuse of the Internet for criminal activities.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cyber / Hackers Attack: A few precautions on protecting your websites and applications -

Cyber_attack

As most of us already aware, a local newspaper has reported that a foreign group, which calls itself Anonymous, launch a cyber attack at 3.30am Thursday 16 June 2011 (Malaysian time) and has named it “Operation Malaysia.” [http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2011/6/15/nation/8902375&sec=nation]. Their target will be website www.malaysia.gov.my. In wake of this event, TM Data Centre team would like to inform you that we will be monitoring closely all security equipment that we have on our data centres and stay on high alert for any sign of security breach attempt to our data centre network. Our team is putting more effort to ensure our security equipment are working at optimum level to protect data centre network and our valued customers.

We would also like to advise you to take a few precautions on protecting your websites and applications. We need to stress again that our security equipment are generally work at network level and traffic signature based only. This means they are not designed to protect website contents/coding and web applications. Unfortunately most successful attacks nowadays are web application attacks and probably including the one which will take place tomorrow morning. This kind of attacks are at the application level such as the notorious SQL Injection and XSS vulnerability attack. In order to protect your web application, listed below are some actions that you need to take which are (modified) tips provided on this link [http://www.eukhost.com/forums/f15/how-prevent-website-being-hacked-6024/]:

Avoid using older versions of software as they are insecure. Use the latest release which includes few security fixes and functionality as well.

2. 3rd Party Scripts and Code

Plug-in, widgets or any other code you usually install are written by other people under unknown circumstances. Make sure you research any code you wish to use but you haven't written yourself.

3. Using exploited PC

One of the biggest reasons of Identity theft and an easy way for someone to fetch confidential details to your site(s). Your personal computer could well turn out to be a weak link in this. It could be anything, from an infected PowerPoint file or someone phishing your account details, the vulnerabilities are too many to consider. No matter how secure your actual website is, if the machine you use to access, log in and edit your web pages is infected you stand a grave risk of being compromised and its outcome may be more than just the effect on your site. Use antivirus scans, clear logs, secure your passwords and be aware of general security issues. Public wifi spots are also a security risk.

4. Secure Passwords for your website and database

A secure password goes a long way in making it difficult for a potential infiltrator to intrude into. Your passwords should always be a combination of letters, numbers and special characters. The longer the password, the better. You can also generate a random password which is even more secure.

5. Checking Your Website Logs Regularly

If you spot any unusual traffic spike in your website stats (ranking for gambling, pharmaceuticals and sex terms is a common one) try working out where it is coming from and going to. From there if you can make sure whether it is a hack.

6. Backups:-

Taking the backups regularly alone won't protect your website from being hacked. In case of hack you will need to take care of the following:-
* Records of IP's accessing your website
* Pre hack backup of your website including the latest updates.

We hope that your websites and web applications will not be affected in any way by the alleged attack. As mentioned earlier, our security equipment can only work effectively on network layer but in any event that you unsure or believe that your website or web application is showing any symptom of being attacked, please feel free to contact us so that we can advise or suggest to you some mitigation measures for your website or web application.

1Gbps, fiber-to-the-home service… for $69.99 a month.

1Gbps fiber for $70—in America? Yup.
Installing aerial fiber optic lines for the Sonic.net trial project

American ISPs have convinced us that Internet access is expensive—getting speeds of 100Mbps will set most people back by more than $100 a month, assuming the service is even available. Where I live in Chicago, Comcast's 105Mbps service goes for a whopping $199.95 ("premium installation" and cable modem not included). Which is why it was so refreshing to see the scrappy California ISP Sonic.net this week roll out its new 1Gbps, fiber-to-the-home service… for $69.99 a month.

Sonic.net has been around since 1994, selling DSL service in California, but it has recently expanded into fiber; the company has even secured the contract to manage Google's own 1Gbps fiber network that will connect 800+ faculty homes at Stanford University.

Sonic.net's new approach to broadband involves stringing its own fiber lines to homes and offering bargain-basement pricing; indeed, the new 1Gbps offering is the same price as the company's earlier bonded 40Mbps DSL offering (in which two phones lines each provide 20Mbps of bandwidth to a home). The price even includes home phone service.

Is this really a sustainable model? After all, Comcast offers 1.5Mbps service for a list price of $40; Sonic.net's new offering is more than 600x faster at only twice the price.

Dane Jasper, Sonic.net's CEO, tells me that the new fiber-to-the-home deployment is a trial and will reach about 700 homes when complete. "Honestly, only as those wrap up will we have a complete picture of the economic model," he says. "But I believe that fast service for a low cost is possible."

If the pilot in Sebastopol, California goes well, Sonic.net hopes to expand the service across the region.

Jasper doesn't think like a typical US Internet exec; in an interview last year, he made clear that his company tries to avoid artificial limits as a way to make more money. "The natural model when you have a simple duopoly capturing the majority of the market is segmentation: maximize ARPU [average revenue per user] by artificially limiting service in order to drive additional monthly spending. But fundamentally this is the wrong model for a service provider like us, and we have looked to Europe for inspiration… I believe that removing the artificial limits on speed, and including home phone with the product are both very exciting."

Though the current trial is small-scale, Sonic.net's pricing reminds us just how much room there is in the US Internet market for truly disruptive pricing of the kind that Google has been promising—but on a much larger scale—with its 1Gbps fiber builds in Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas.

Lebih Daripada 90 Halaman Web Digodam semalam

Skmm

Antara laman web yang telah digodam, termasuklah halaman web CIDB.gov.my, JBiotech.gov.my, UiTM Penang, TourMalaysia.com.my, KRU Studios, Parlimen.gov.my dan beberapa laman lagi. Malaysia.gov.my.

COVERAGE OF ATTACK:

Hacker group Anonymous launched their attack on websites owned by Malaysia's government in an effort dubbed 'Operation Malaysia'. In a statement posted on several online portals such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, the vigilante group revealed the reasons behind the attack, saying that it was done to teach the country's administration a lesson for censoring whistle blower site WikiLeaks, as well as the recent blocking of file-sharing websites which they claim is in violation of human rights. Multiple websites were brought down in the attack, although reports on the number of those affected varied from once source to another.

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission issues statement on #OpMalaysia

http://skmm.gov.my/images/skmm_logo.png

AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE MALAYSIAN COMMUNICATIONS AND MULTIMEDIA COMMISSION (MCMC) IN RELATION TO THE HACKING OF MALAYSIAN GOVERNMENT WEBSITES BY UNKNOWN HACKERS

Cyberjaya – Regarding the threat by unknown hackers to attack websites with the .gov.my domain, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) confirms that there were indeed attempts to hack several websites, including www.skmm.gov.my. The attempt to hack MCMC’s website was not successful.

These attacks started at approximately 11.30pm, on 15 June 2011. We are able to confirm that 51 .gov.my websites were attacked and there has been disruption at various levels to at least 41 of those websites. However, we do not expect the overall recovery to these websites to take long as most websites have already recovered from the attack.

Our monitoring of the situation showed that there was a reduced level of attacks by 4.00am this morning and upon further evaluation, so far we gauge that there has been little impact on Malaysian users as a result of this attack.

MCMC’s Network Security Center has been making concerted efforts to mitigate the attacks around the clock and will continue to work with other enforcement agencies and security experts as well service providers to monitor the situation.

The public is advised to report any information they may have regarding the identity of these hackers as the act to disrupt network services is a serious offence, which is punishable by law.”

http://news.hitb.org/content/mcmc-issues-statement-opmalaysia

Cyberjaya – Further to the statement that was made by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) this morning on the issue of the hacking of Government websites by unknown hackers, MCMC is able to confirm that most of the attacks were Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks which made it difficult for Internet users to access the websites.

In total, MCMC’s Network Security Centre detected service outages to 91 websites, 51 of which are Government-related websites. Out of the 91 websites, 76 have been recovered, so far with work continuing to achieve speedy recovery as soon as possible. Typically, if a website has been hacked, website administrators would have to evaluate the damage caused by the attack and then proceed to restore access to the website. In most cases, strengthening of the security measures will also be part of the process.

As of 4.00pm this afternoon, most Government-related websites are accessible to the public and have either not been affected by the service outages or have recovered from the attacks.

The MCMC would like to advise the public to exercise due caution as they would whenever making a transaction over the Internet.

Internet Archive starts backing up digital books on paper

Internet Archive starts backing up digital books on paper
Modified shipping containers used by the Internet Archive

If you want real long-term backups of digitized ebooks, then look no further than dead tree. At least, that's the consensus of the Internet Archive project, which has announced an incredibly ambitious plan to store one physical copy of every published book in the world.

"Internet Archive is building a physical archive for the long term preservation of one copy of every book, record, and movie we are able to attract or acquire... The goal is to preserve one copy of every published work," writes IA's Brewster Kahle in a lengthy blog post about the plan.

Kahle cites a number of reasons for wanting to preserve physical copies of works that are being digitized; for instance, a dispute could arise about the fidelity of the digital version, and only access to a copy of the original would resolve it. Kahle also told Kevin Kelly that we'll eventually want to rescan these books at an even higher DPI, so the digital copies will be waiting when we do.

Another reason for keeping a physical copy, and one that Kahle doesn't mention, is that the problem of long-term digital storage still isn't completely solved. The cloud as a large-scale storage medium has only recently emerged, and it's definitely not perfect as a long-term archival medium. Digital archivists have long pointed out that given a sufficient length of time, data loss is a problem even for highly redundant, highly available, distributed storage systems. Apart from the well-known phenomenon of bit rot, bits can get flipped for any number of reasons as they traverse a network and multiple software stacks, and ECC and other failsafes don't catch 100 percent of these errors. So on a long enough time horizon with a large-enough, complex-enough system, these undetected, flipped bits will begin to accumulate.

Realistically, Kahle and Co. expect to preserve 10 million books, out of an estimated 100 million published. These will be packed into climate-controlled storage containers, and stored in a facility in Richmond, CA that opens this month.

Kahle describes the details of the physical preservation as follows:

 • Books are cataloged, and have acid free paper inserts with information about the book and its location,
 • Boxes store approximately 40 books with labeling on the outside,
 • Pallets hold 24 boxes each,
 • Modified 40′ shipping containers are used as secure and individually controllable environments of 50 or 60 degrees Fahrenheit and 30% relative humidity,
 • Buildings contain shipping containers and environmental systems,
 • Non-profit organizations own and protect the property and its contents.

In order to reach its goal of collecting one of every book ever made, the Internet Archive is soliciting contributions of books from everyone from libraries to individual collectors.

Microsoft of Redmond, Washington, launched “Star Wars" game for its Xbox 360 system which uses the Kinect sensing motion device that will allow gamers to move objects with their arms, the WSJ reported.

The three major companies are facing stiff competition from smaller novel forms of gaming, like the ones on Facebook, to the cheap games which are designed for smart phones and tablets.

Around 10 million games designed for Kinect have been sold since its release in November.

According to Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business, the Kinect will make players feel the "real deal".

EA (Electronic Arts) has announced the launch of four sports games wiPublish

th the likes of Tiger Woods golf, Madden football, FIFA soccer and another game with an unannounced title which will use Kinect.

EA will launch, "Mass Effect 3", in March 2012, which will use the Kinect technology and allow players to converse, affecting the overall behavior of the game.

EA displayed at an event on Monday, 'The Sims Social' where the characters can dance and do many 'virtual' things.

Microsoft has also announced the launch of a new version of its Xbox Live online entertainment service that will provide members with access to video from Youtube and a variety of other television events. The company said it will add a search function to the service to help users to look for videos, music and games using the voice commands.

Sony's PlayStation Vita, with a price tag of $249 and $299 respectively for the models that can access wi-fi and the 3G network, was the biggest surprise at E3 with its lower prices despite having features like a touch screen and rear touch pads, analysts said.

What was your favorite announcement?

Rich Siegelfounder and CEO of Bare Bones Software Inc., which makes Yojimbo: The amount of user-facing work that’s going into Lion and iOS 5 is truly impressive, especially as it reflects an enormous amount of infrastructure work.

Gedeon MaheuxPrincipal / Designer at The Iconfactory, which makes Twitterific: We’re most excited about all of the potential in iOS 5, such as Apple’s new iCloud API. Hopefully synching Twitter timeline positions across multiple copies of Twitterrific will work with relatively little effort.

Ken CaseCEO of The Omni Group: I’m really looking forward to updating our document-based apps (OmniOutliner, OmniGraffle . . . ) to leverage iCloud’s document syncing.

David Framptonfounder of Majic Jungle Software, which makes Chopper and Chopper 2: AirPlay Mirroring. I wasn’t expecting that, as it seems a pretty amazing technical achievement. Not sure on the details yet, but it could be a big deal for gaming.

Layton Duncanfounder of Polar Bear Farm, which makes Air Forms: By far iCloud, specifically Photo Stream. Photos across multiple devices, iPhone, laptop and desktop have been a real pain point for a while. It’s nice to have something to now sync consistently and transparently across all my devices.

What were you not expecting to see?

Maheux: Personally I’m excited about iMessage as a potential replacement for the aging application iChat and the newly redesigned notification system in iOS.

Case: Reminders in iOS 5 looks good! Glad to see Apple providing it as important baseline functionality (and challenging us to take things further).

Siegel: When they announced iTunes music storage, my immediate question was, “But what about music that I *didn’t* buy from iTunes?” The answer to that comes as iTunes Match, which was a pleasant surprise for me.

What was the most overdue announcement?

Frampton: Fixing the notification system. It’s been pretty bad, so it’s great to see that they’ve made some major improvements.

Duncan: Absolutely the notifications overhaul. They have been terrible in iOS for a long time. Now it looks like they finally have a scalable solution.

What new feature is going to have the biggest long-term impact?

Duncan: To me it’s the iCloud document syncing. It’s a feature that in the future you’ll not necessarily notice day-to-day because it just happens, but won’t be able to live without.

Siegel: It’s really impossible to fully gauge the developer impact just yet, but these user-facing features are exciting developments, and they’re backed by a huge number of new APIs. As the week goes on I expect to have a better sense of how we can employ the internal developents to make better software.

Frampton: iCloud is a big deal. It takes a bunch of totally separate devices and unifies them, which I think will permanently change the way we view and use them.

Anything that worries you?

Frampton: Apple announced a number of new apps and features that totally obsolete many third-party apps. This has caught a number of developers off guard, and there is no guarantee they won’t obsolete other apps and business models in the future. In fact, they certainly will.

Duncan: There were some concerns with new features, specifically the Reminders app, which seems to directly compete with developers, with no real reason, given it’s a feature that doesn’t need to be deeply integrated into the OS. Secondly, the use of the volume button as a camera button, given the history of that feature in Tap Tap Tap’s Camera+ app [it was introduced to Camera+ as a hidden feature, which prompted Apple to pull the app from the App Store for many months]

On Monday, WWDC 2011 revealed a number of enhancements to OS X, iOS and iCloud.

Here was news about updates to the computer operating system – Mac OS X Lion – about the iPad and iPhone operating system – iOS 5 – and about a new service/product called iCloud.

No new gadgets this time around.

Out of 250 new features, Apple highlighted only some of them during the keynote. A major takeaway: you have access to everything everywhere all the time.

Trackpads will now respond to multitouch gestures including scroll, pinch and zoom.

A new control on the upper right will let you take an app full screen with a swipe, another swipe at the upper left will exit full screen.

Mission Control unifies Expose and Spaces. You can swipe to see all open apps and spaces. Another swipe takes you back to the desktop. If you've loved using Spaces, Mission Control will make it easier for you.

The Mac App Store is built in. That means you can buy software on your laptop with no trips to the store. Apps can be arranged and stored in folders like on iOS. When you launch an app, it takes you right back to where you were when you left off. Apple calls this feature Resume.

Auto-save is automatic in documents now. Plus versions of a document are saved as you work, which you can browse through with an interface that looks like Time Machine.

Tapping a document name opens up a contextual menu, including Browse All Versions. You can quit an app without saving, because Lion saves it for you.

AirDrop will appear in the Finder. Use it to drag and drop documents between computers in your network.

Mail is brand new. It looks like the version of Mail on an iPad and is optimized for reading. Search in mail can recognize if you are searching for a person, a subject or a date. The threading of mail is called "Conversation View" and appears in a separate column.

Lion is only available in the Mac App Store for only $29. It will be available in July. It looks like users currently running Leopard must first upgrade to Snow Leopard ($29) to gain access to the Mac App Store, so it will be a $60 fee to upgrade if you're not already at Snow Leopard.

Apple is calling iOS 5 a major release. There are 200 new features. The big ten were mentioned in the keynote.

Notifications will now be collected in a Notifications Center. They will be reachable without being so much of an interruption. If the screen is locked, they show. Swiping over a notification puts you into the relevant app, even from the locked screen.

Newstand will make it easier to get all your magazine subscriptions. Subscriptions will now be downloaded in the background.

Twitter will have a single sign-on across all your iOS apps. It's integrated into apps like the Camera, too.

Safari will have a Reader feature and make it show just the story you're reading. You can request full page and won't have to tap from page to page. And you can email contents from what you're reading rather than a link. That one may not be a big hit with web sites wanting traffic. Reading List lets you save stories to read later. A big one for me is that there is now tab browsing for Safari in iOS 5!

Reminders lets you store lists, dates, locations, todo items. It syncs with iCal.

Camera is faster and has a shortcut from a lockscreen, even if you have a passcode set. You can pinch to zoom in the camera. The camera can lock in auto expose and auto focus. You can edit right in the camera app – crop, rotate, red eye, etc.

Mail will add rich-text formatting, controled indentation, draggable addresses, and support for flagging. You'll be able to search messages. There will be more support for S/MIME. There will be built in dictionary across all iOS apps, including Mail. You can split the keyboard to type with just your thumbs.

The new PC Free feature is a nice one. You can set up and activate the device without your PC. Software updates come straight to the device without being tethered to a computer. Updates shouldn't take so long either, since they will only update what's changed.

Game Center is more social. Games can be purchased and downloaded from Game Center.

iMessage is a new service between all iOS users. Messages can include text, photos, videos, contacts. You can see when the other person is typing. You can request delivery receipts and read receipts. iMessage pushes to all your iOS devices. Start with your iPod Touch and finish on your iPad. Messages don't interrupt what you're doing, they fade in and out without stopping things.

iOS 5 ships in the fall.

iCloud

Steve Jobs handed off the speaking duties for the OS updates, but introduced iCloud himself.

iCloud lets you move your digital hub into the cloud where everything stays in sync between all your devices. Do something with one device, it gets sent to the cloud and pushed back down to all your other devices. It's integrated with all apps – contacts, calendar, mail, App Store, iBooks, Documents, iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote), photos (using the Photo Stream app), iTunes. A change anywhere propagates everywhere. Including any new devices you buy as soon as you activate it. You're limited to 10 devices.

There's once a day backup to iCloud of all content.

iCloud is free. And it works for Macs and PCs.

The photo storage is only the last 1000 photos you've taken, so they have to be downloaded and stored somewhere outside iCloud if you have more than 1000.

There's also a space limit in iTunes music.

To get iTunes in the cloud, just upgrade your phone to iOS 5. iTunes in the cloud will also run on iOS 4.3. It will be built in to all iOS 5 devices shipping in the fall.

You don't have to buy the music from iTunes to use it on iTunes. iTunes Match can convert songs you've ripped from your CDs to the the Apple encoding (256 kbps AAC) and store them in the cloud. Jobs didn't mention what the implications to the music industry might be of iTunes Match "legalizing" music you pirated or downloaded from some questionable source. The service is $24.99 a year no matter how many songs you have. And a sync is fast when compared with other services.

My Two Cents

Mac products continue to get better and better, and the cost of upgrading to the latest and greatest is not burdensome. The laptop is becoming a bit more iPad-like in operation while the iOS devices become more and more capable.

Their cloud service seems to be a better deal than the others available right now, or at least offers some stiff competition. If you've already got online backup storage in the cloud, iCloud might not provide the storage capacity you need to let it go. In iCloud's favor, it is dead easy and syncs to all your devices automatically.
